Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), founded by Dr. Marsha Linehan, is an empirically supported and evidence-based cognitive behavioral treatment modality used to treat co-occurring disorders, substance abuse, and chronic psychosocial disorders. The ultimate goal of DBT is to guide individuals in developing a quality life worth living. At Hotel California by the Sea Cincinnati, DBT interventions help diminish ineffective, problematic, and destructive behaviors. Four skills taught in DBT are core mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT was founded exclusively to treat chronically suicidal individuals with borderline personality disorder. Research shows that DBT is also highly effective in treating substance abuse disorders, depressive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and eating disorders.
