Our History

Founding Owner Carl Mosen and Kevin Mello, CEO

Carl Mosen, the original founder of Sober Living by the Sea, and Kevin Mello bring 30+ years of knowledge, experience and passion to the addiction recovery field. Carl and Kevin opened Hotel California by the Sea in Southern California in 2014 to provide the highest quality of addiction and co-occurring disorder treatment available.

From day one, Carl and Kevin shared a passion for helping addicts and alcoholics find a solution to a deadly disease that both of them struggled with. Their passion has translated into what we call the “magic” of Hotel California by the Sea and has been passed down to all of our staff who also share a deep passion for the work they do on a daily basis.

J.B. Whitehouse, who is now the Program Director at Hotel California by the Sea Cincinnati, feels extremely grateful to have found his purpose at Hotel California by the Sea and to be able to have led the opening of Hotel California By the Sea Cincinnati in 2018.

Nearly 10 years ago, J.B. battled with addiction and ended up traveling to California to seek a model of treatment that did not yet exist in Ohio. After successfully achieving and maintaining his sobriety and working in nearly every capacity of the addiction treatment field at Hotel California by the Sea in California, J.B. felt that it was his calling to bring the solution he found in California back home to the state of Ohio. With the support of Carl and his team, Hotel California by the Sea Cincinnati opened its doors in 2018.

Modeled off of our flagship addiction treatment program in Southern California, Hotel California by the Sea Cincinnati provides men, women and young adults with detoxification/withdrawal management, residential and outpatient (PHP and IOP) treatment services and private, structured and gender-specific recovery residences.
